A modern and future-proof web platform for Mondi

Mondi Group approached us with the need for a new web platform for the group’s various websites, including mondigroup.com. They required a digital presence that would strengthen the user experience, simplify editorial workflows and at the same time future-proof the underlying technology.

We supported them with structure, packaging and development, launching according to plan in September 2023. By then, the project had covered everything from design and implementation to training, deployment and continuous development.

The challenge

Mondi needed to replace several existing websites before the previous platform reached end of support. External audiences — customers, investors, journalists and job seekers — required clear navigation and easy access to relevant information. At the same time, internal stakeholders including web editors, marketing and communications managers, and recruiters needed a CMS that made content management intuitive and efficient.

The new platform had to support both centralized and distributed content management across 16 countries and multiple languages. It also needed to enable personalization, testing and performance follow-up without relying on external resources.

The solution

To meet these requirements, we worked iteratively across design, UX, and technical implementation. We developed moodboards and a design concept rooted in Mondi’s existing brand, created wireframes for key user flows and built a modular design system where CMS components can be combined flexibly across templates.

The platform was implemented in Optimizely DXP, with integrations for content translation, image and video management, as well as tools for structured content migration.

We also established a deployment flow with automated testing, validation and production environments, enabling frequent releases without compromising stability or availability.

At the same time, we documented processes and tools for editors, including integrated guides directly within the CMS. This ensured a secure and intuitive workflow, with documentation placed exactly where it is needed in daily work.

The impact

The result is a modern, user-friendly and future-proof web platform that supports both external and internal needs.

For visitors, this means clearer navigation, better segmentation based on intent and faster access to relevant information.

For editors, it means more efficient workflows supported by clear guidelines, automated tools for media and translation handling, and the ability to work with personalization and testing independently.

The project was delivered on time and within budget, without critical bugs at launch. Performance and security were improved, and the modular foundation ensures long-term flexibility and scalability.

Insights

Close collaboration and high transparency throughout the project enabled us to prioritize based on real needs rather than an initial specification alone.

Post-launch, we have worked continuously with evaluation and optimization to ensure the platform meets both measurable business goals and user expectations. The modular design system provides long-term flexibility for evolving packaging, content and functionality over time.
